Narrative
Delia Balmer, a nurse at the agency, met Sweeney and confessed to killing her ex-girlfriend. Balmer rebuilt her life to confront Sweeney seven years after he was arrested for another murder.
Based on a true crime story
The bodies were dumped in the canals of Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London. This excellent drama is based on the true, horrific story of Delia Balmer.
Instead we have Delia, who, to be honest, is not a particularly likeable woman
Unlike most of these true-life dramas, there is no sugar coating of events or characters, or some dynamic hero walking in to save the day. She can be abrasive, rude, and instantly capable of hitting and insulting—that was before she met John Sweeney.
She was simply WOW
However, Delia’s ordeal is incredibly tragic, I was moved to tears many times and left with anger and disgust at the attitude of the police and the justice system. Anna Maxwell Martin deserves to win awards for her excellent performance.
This show is not for the faint of heart, but it is worth watching
I sincerely hope that the police and the justice system have learned their lessons and that the victims are not treated as liars and criminals.
